Corpse - Adelaide Fringe Review

Whether you’re a believer in the supernatural, ghouls and ghosts, or you remain a sceptic, Kirsty Mann: Corpse is a ripping good ghost yarn. Calling it “a good ghost story” is understating it.

Have you ever tried to tell a 55-minute ghost story and kept a full room of people hooked the whole time? Kirsty does, and she nails the balance of spooky-scary, suspense, humour, and then more spooky-scary. The sound and lighting are used properly, building tension and landing a few well-timed jump moments.

Kirsty jokes that she isn’t good at characters or accents, which is a timely reminder to never believe an artist when they say they’re not good at something. She’s excellent, slipping between people and moments with clarity and control, and keeping the story sharp and sometimes upbeat, without fully losing the dread. And it seemed to me as if not a single beat was missed to boot, colour me impressed.

If are in need of a spooky-scary, very well told tale, this is a strong choice.
