Club Doggo - Adelaide Fringe Review

Club Doggo is exactly what it says on the tin: a variety comedy show where dogs are the real stars of the show. I brought my parents’ dog, Wilson, an 8-year-old half chihuahua, half… pug (we think). After his roughly 45 human-equivalent years on earth, he’d never experienced stand-up comedy, and honestly, it felt like a milestone for the little legend. I’ve known him since he was the size of a potato, and he’s more like a sack of potatoes now, so seeing him posted up, panting happily and soaking up the attention was a delight.

The format is simple. Four comedians do their sets, with dog-friendly twists in a relaxed, outdoor energy. A highlight is seeing special guest dogs in the mix, on stage with the comedians, which adds a lovely layer to the sets. And the doggos even get snacks at the end, thanks to the heroes at The Pet Butcher.

This show is a fun idea executed well, because why wouldn't it?. Everyone involved should feel good about giving man’s greatest invention a place to wag their tails, collect scritches from any available hands, and be included in the Fringe fun. Two paws up (or five human stars).
