First things first, with full transparency. I LOVE Blake Lively, so my review of this new hit film is completely biased and I DO NOT CARE. I follow approximately 8 Blake Lively fan accounts, and this steady stream on Blake x A Simple Favour content coming through my newsfeed made me enormously excited to see this new drama/thriller.

Featuring Anna Kendrick as a sweet, whole-hearted Mummy Vlogger (on-brand), Stephanie meets Emily Nelson (Blake Lively) through their two sons becoming fast kindergarden friends (scandalous).

Automatically seduced by Emily's 'give no fucks' attitude and flashy life ( huge house, high-rise job in PR - again, on-brand), their friendship begins on an almost perfect mix of sweet and spicy.

Then Emily goes missing.

Without giving away major movie spoilers, A Simple Favour mixes genuinely interesting character developments with a plot twist that not even I could spot from 3/4's into the film. If you're looking for a Saturday night flick that will check every box of substance you're seeking in a movie - we've hit the jackpot.

For a disclaimer, in comparison to other leading lady films that boast depth but bring shallow female friendships - I personally feel like this movie was created as a movie. Not just an excuse to have two females prancing around the silver screen to fill Hollywood's "funny women" quota.

If the enticing plot isn't enough to get you over the line... the fashion is. Lively's array of beautiful suits and outfits will be. Lively's film publicity tour outfits has sparked a whole new Pinterest board (made by me), and has given me Adelaide Fashion Festival red carpet vibes all month.

I highly recommend going to see A Simple Favour. 5/5 stars.

After an immensely successful season on the River Torrens, the BBQ Buoys are back with their incredibly unique experience this Summer - and I was lucky enough to be their 'first mate' to see it all for myself!

The buoys are an entertainment experience completely different from anything I've tried in Adelaide. Let's start off by saying... it's a lot of fun! It's like having a cocktail on Peel St, but you receive the added benefit of basking in the glory of our beautiful city.

I had a few worries about getting on a boat... namely, because I was wearing heels and falling into the River Torrens is number #3 on my "Worst Fears" list. But I must admit, the team behind the BBQ Buoys made the whole experience completely easy and free of any blue-green algae in my hair.

The concept is easy: pick a buoy (capacity/duration) or pick a package (Ladies on The Buoys, Date on a Buoy, Mates on the Buoy, or Family Ahoi), and enjoy! And with every trip, you get a portable Bluetooth speaker, an esky with ice, cutlery and plates, and a gas BBQ or table!

On the buoy, we were able to tear apart these beautiful grazing platters from The Grazing Box - which is everything I've ever needed for a platter (meats, cheeses and chocolate?! Sign me up). Make sure you don't leave this off your BBQ Buoy experience!

The BBQ Buoys are officially available to be booked right now! With a variety of packages to suit your every need, open Fri - Sun 12pm - 8pm. Check out their website here to learn more about the experience. Located at Pinky Flat.

A BIG thank you to Kelly Noble and GlamAdelaide for inviting us along to experience this amazing Adelaide business! <3

Days is the latest single released by Adelaide DJ, songwriter, and vocalist, Lemendt, dropping right in time to add it to your Summer playlist.

The 22-year-old artist wrote the track in ten minutes on a Winter’s day as she was chasing the summer vibes that are so evidently present in this electro-pop hit.

“People are so concerned with living a conventional life that they forget to take time to enjoy their youth. This track is written from my perspective, but, if you ask me, youth is based on mindset rather than an age. Do what makes you happy, not what society tells you to do.

Working with well-renown Adelaide based music production company, Milk and Honey, and IVY Entertainment, the team have been able to produce a song that they are confident will be admired by electronic fans.

The artist attributes her new song as a milestone, not only professionally, but personally.

“There was a time where I was feeling so alone, and the only place I had to turn to was music. Expressing myself through my song writing and music production is therapeutic and has got me through some of the darkest times in my life – I’m grateful for that.

Lemendt has made a name for herself in the Adelaide music scene as a resident DJ for Musque Food & Wine. She’s also been the headline act for Sidechain at Lotus Lounge and has mixed a live set for the Designer Showcase at the Creative Design Market at Plant 4 Bowden this September.

Her talents have not gone unnoticed, having recently been nominated for a 2018 SAM Music Award for Most Popular Electronic Artist which is presented by Fresh 92.7.

Since bursting into the Adelaide DJ scene earlier this year, Lemendt is known for her other original tracks How It Feels, Futures and Talk To Me.

The future is bright for this young artist who has plans for more singles to be released later in 2018.

Days is now available for download on all major platforms including Apple Music, and streaming on Triple J Unearthed, Spotify, and YouTube.

Bumbling Through Adelaide is an anonymous Adelaide writer and dating extraordinaire, who recants her romantic peaks and pitfalls through her Instagram account @bumbling_through_adelaide
With her humorous and often all too relatable commentary on modern dating, we’ve secured the first ever column from SA’s most mysterious bachelorette.

It’s a jungle out there. Only, there’s not so much greenery, and, the lions and tigers are few and far between. New York, you might think? No, this, is the “Dating Scene” in Adelaide. I use that term loosely because there really isn’t much of one. Though, that doesn’t stop a girl from putting herself out there anyway, often with disastrous (and hilarious) results.

Example? A swiping session on Bumble will result in a whole ten men to choose from, and usually, 99% of them are a hard left swipe. Usually, it’s the same ol’ culprits show up again and again in the pile, too. Come on Adelaide, something new please! Occasionally there will be a few newbies. The catch? They are only visiting for the weekend. Typical. I don’t discriminate though, I do love a good out of towner, it takes the pressure off. Tinder, though, that’s another story. Spoiled for choice! I mean, it’s not great choice, but what… you want good men to actually choose from, too? So greedy, single gals of Adelaide.

The dating? I usually stick to a few of my favourite spots. I like to feel comfortable. This IS Adelaide though, and there’s always a high chance I’ll run into someone I’ve dated before, someone he’s dated before, or even worse, someone one of us is currently casually dating.

And the burning question: Are the men my friends have dated off limits? Hell no! The gorgeous, successful single men pool in this little city is already way too shallow to only dip your toes in if a friend hasn’t swum there before. If you manage to get past the first date, then it’s all up from there… until he starts liking other girls’ posts on Instagram and you start posting boring AF insta-stories just to see if HE views it. Hi there misguided anxiety, thanks for coming to the party!

Meeting one in real life? Well, that’s another story altogether. I’m still holding out hope that the right guy will gently brush my hand, while we both reach for the same takeaway dairy-free latte at Nutrition Republic, smiling embarrassingly, but then going on to live happily ever after. Hoping to see you there soon, Prince Charming.

Although, the exhausting dating game really does beat the alternative of being stuck with the wrong person to begin with. It’s easy to fantasise about being the couple who walk together hand-in-hand down Rundle St grabbing coffee on a Sunday morning, but fantasy isn’t reality, and for right now, I’m much happier sharing my king-size bed with people who actually deserve it (me and my laptop) and to continue sharing my stories as I keep on Bumbling Through Adelaide.

A big thank you to Bumbling Through Adelaide for writing this amazing piece for us!

Tuesdays Are Good, but perhaps our Thursday at the Crown and Anchor was better! This past week, ELEVATE Music had the opportunity of attending the Happy Valley locals, The Halfway Charlies, triumphant return to the music scene after spending time away to work on their craft.

With the Cranker’s usual array of spectacular bands, The Halfway Charlies, alongside The Stiff Kinks and The Cameramen, supported Twitch for a wall-to-wall headline performance.

We got a hold of the four spunky dudes from The Halfway Charlies, better known as Andrew Petrie (Drums), Eddie Symonds (Bass), Kyle Jones (Lead Guitar, Backup Vocals), and Scott Belcher (Lead Vocals, Rhythm Guitar), to chat about the prevails of their up-and-coming Adelaide Punk-Funk band.

The boys told us the story of how tracking down their now drummer, Andrew, was one of the major challenges and eventual accomplishments of the group. Completing the band just over a year ago, Andrew’s fellow bandmates all agree he was the missing link to their sound; and solidifying someone who can ‘beat the drums well’ (as was a major prerequisite) was crucial to the success of The Halfway Charlies.

Drawing some of their inspirations from greats like The Arctic Monkeys, The Kooks and Canadian Punk-Rock band, Billy Talent; The Halfway Charlies are a composite of alternative sound, diverging from standard chord progressions, while pairing their compositions with uplifting, empowering, and original lyrics.

Tune into The Halfway Charlies via the Triple J Unearthed link here. And if you’re all the way sure you don’t want to miss their next big performance, catch The Halfway Charlies live at The West Oak Hotel on the 19th of October.
