Swipe Right with Bumbling Through Adelaide

Bumbling Through Adelaide is an anonymous Adelaide writer and dating extraordinaire, who recants her romantic peaks and pitfalls through her Instagram account @bumbling_through_adelaide
With her humorous and often all too relatable commentary on modern dating, we’ve secured the first ever column from SA’s most mysterious bachelorette.

It’s a jungle out there. Only, there’s not so much greenery, and, the lions and tigers are few and far between. New York, you might think? No, this, is the “Dating Scene” in Adelaide. I use that term loosely because there really isn’t much of one. Though, that doesn’t stop a girl from putting herself out there anyway, often with disastrous (and hilarious) results.

Example? A swiping session on Bumble will result in a whole ten men to choose from, and usually, 99% of them are a hard left swipe. Usually, it’s the same ol’ culprits show up again and again in the pile, too. Come on Adelaide, something new please! Occasionally there will be a few newbies. The catch? They are only visiting for the weekend. Typical. I don’t discriminate though, I do love a good out of towner, it takes the pressure off. Tinder, though, that’s another story. Spoiled for choice! I mean, it’s not great choice, but what… you want good men to actually choose from, too? So greedy, single gals of Adelaide.

The dating? I usually stick to a few of my favourite spots. I like to feel comfortable. This IS Adelaide though, and there’s always a high chance I’ll run into someone I’ve dated before, someone he’s dated before, or even worse, someone one of us is currently casually dating.

And the burning question: Are the men my friends have dated off limits? Hell no! The gorgeous, successful single men pool in this little city is already way too shallow to only dip your toes in if a friend hasn’t swum there before. If you manage to get past the first date, then it’s all up from there… until he starts liking other girls’ posts on Instagram and you start posting boring AF insta-stories just to see if HE views it. Hi there misguided anxiety, thanks for coming to the party!

Meeting one in real life? Well, that’s another story altogether. I’m still holding out hope that the right guy will gently brush my hand, while we both reach for the same takeaway dairy-free latte at Nutrition Republic, smiling embarrassingly, but then going on to live happily ever after. Hoping to see you there soon, Prince Charming.

Although, the exhausting dating game really does beat the alternative of being stuck with the wrong person to begin with. It’s easy to fantasise about being the couple who walk together hand-in-hand down Rundle St grabbing coffee on a Sunday morning, but fantasy isn’t reality, and for right now, I’m much happier sharing my king-size bed with people who actually deserve it (me and my laptop) and to continue sharing my stories as I keep on Bumbling Through Adelaide.

A big thank you to Bumbling Through Adelaide for writing this amazing piece for us!
