HYPNOSIS [Live] - ADELAIDE FRINGE REVIEW

17 Feb 2019

"SEE the show or BE the show!"

Presented by Isaac Lomman

The initial assumption made about a hypnotist performance might be a group of planted audience members being plucked onto the stage and proceeding to cluck like a chicken.

We can tell you that HYPNOSIS [Live] by Isaac Lomman is as skilled in his profession as he is in converting the most skeptical participants.

Returning to his seventh Adelaide Fringe season, Lomman has been able to put together a show that ticks off every box for a good performance. HYPNOSIS [Live] is entertaining, unexpected, and most importantly, challenges the audience’s pre-conceived conceptions on an idea and re-educates them on how fun and real hypnosis can be.

During HYPNOSIS [Live], twelve lucky audience members bravely marched onto the stage to experience the show like few ever have before.

The most interesting part of the show is how the on-stage participants need to be susceptible to the hypnosis. People who ‘fight’ the hypnosis or don’t fall in deep enough, then don’t participate – leaving the hypnosis experience to those completely under his spell.

In the hour-long show, we saw people who were instructed to steal facial expressions, leading the victim to start frantically grabbing the face of the person next to them; those who were fully convinced that they were the ‘best dancers in the world’ and proceeded to boogie down to “Baby Shark”; and even someone who was spellbound enough to fall in love on-stage and shower the focus of their affections in lei’s.

At the expense of the on-stage participants, the audience responded with shocks and laughs throughout the evening. From HYPNOSIS [Live], we’re sure Isaac’s victims had a great time – even if they don’t remember it.

If you’re looking to be entertained this Fringe and to challenge your idea of reality and live hypnotism, this is one show we thoroughly suggest you see.

4.5 out of 5 stars
