I’ve been to the Gala a few times now and it's always a showstopper. It’s the perfect Fringe charcuterie, giving you a bite-sized taste of some of the biggest and boldest acts performing at Gluttony this season. Whether you’re a Fringe first-timer or a seasoned pro, it’s a must.
And this year? Bigger. Bolder. Bubblier.
A Variety Show Like No Other
Held in The Moa, deep in the heart of Gluttony (yes, it’s a bit of a walk, but totally worth it!), the Gala featured an absolute powerhouse lineup of Fringe favourites, including:
- Hans – Our glitter-clad MC, serving sequins, sass, and showbiz.
- The Black Blues Brothers – Acrobatics, rhythm, and unreal energy.
- The Ladyboys of Bangkok – Dazzling, high-energy, and an outfit lover’s dream.
- Ben Hart – Spellbinding magic with a touch of mystery.
- Heartbreak Hotel – Showstopping, powerful, and unforgettable.
- Adult Bubble Show – Yes, a grown-up bubble act. Intriguing, and Joel's fave of the night!
This year also saw the return of the pond within Gluttony (it’s looking a lot fresher than it did a few months ago!) and the addition of Champagne Island - because let’s be real, any excuse to sip champagne on an island is a good one.
And a fun backstage moment - I had a bit of a fashion bonding experience with Rachel, the performer behind the Heartbreak Hotel while waiting outside. I complimented her outfit, she complimented mine; it was wholesome and full of Fringe friendliness (we both looked amazing, of course).
Joel’s Take – A Fringe Veteran’s First Gala
This time around, I brought along my gorgeous, hilarious, and very patient boyfriend, Joel, to experience his first-ever Gluttony Gala.
After a few celebratory drinks (because, of course), we sat down for a post-show debrief.
His standout act? The Adult Bubble Show! Simple? Yes. Impressive? Absolutely.
Honourable mention? Heartbreak Hotel - because who doesn’t love a powerful, show-stopping performance?
Fashion moment? The Ladyboys of Bangkok, who absolutely slayed in the style department. (Joel’s exact words: “Their fits were incredible.”)
