Review By Maria Dizazzo
In the words of our Queen Mother herself... don't be a drag, BE A QUEEN!!
And that's exactly what you get served up by GINGZILLA.
Glamonster vs The World is a comedic and daring caba-GAY, tackling big world issues like sexism and the role of
women in society, judgement of drag queens as ‘monsters’ ie the name Gingzilla, married with a well-constructed show and an INSANE voice to top it off!
When she started to
sing, I was astounded, she’s truly a well-trained and stellar vocalist.
Not to mention, she had GUTS. A lot of the audience members (particularly husbands who
were probably dragged along with their wives) had unsure looks on their face to begin with; but she still carried the show in spite of
old-school Aussie alpha-male judgements and preconceptions.
During the
performance, she used snippets of old Hollywood films like King Kong in the 30s
and 1950’s advertising and inserted herself into the videos! I found this
technique super funny because it highlighted how silly the treatment of women
was (… all not too long ago!)
Gingzilla: Glamonster vs The World was an eye-opening, culturally relevant and all-entertaining show that I'd highly recommend.
5 STARS!
P.S Oh and, I want her wig.
