Katya Komarova: A Decade in the Making - ADL Fashion Week 2025

There’s something magical about being in a room where fashion, craftsmanship and community intertwine so effortlessly. During ADL Fashion Week, that magic unfolded at OZIN Restaurant as the ever-iconic Katya Komarova celebrated ten years of redefining accessories with quiet luxury, sustainable design, and her signature stitch-free silhouette that has become a South Australian fashion staple.

Hosted by the fabulous Rebecca Morse, the event struck that perfect balance between a chic fashion affair and a heartfelt celebration. Katya’s creations were displayed like works of art... literally. Thanks to her unique design technique, each bag could be flattened and elegantly framed around the venue, creating a gallery-style experience that was stylish and deeply personal.

During the Q&A, Katya shared insights into her journey, from discovering leatherwork (almost by accident) to becoming one of Adelaide’s most admired designers. What resonated most with me personally was her belief that the real reason for doing anything is to nurture connections. For her, the relationships she’s built over the years are more meaningful than the brand itself. It’s rare to hear such honesty in fashion, and it made the afternoon feel even more special.

On a personal note, I had a quick chat with Katya, and she mentioned something that made me very, very happy as a humble fashion-blogger: a significant amount of traffic to her website actually comes from mentions on my blog. A full-circle moment if there ever was one.

OZIN Restaurant, tucked on East Tce, provided the perfect setting. Guests nibbled on gourmet appetisers and sipped wine, while conversations floated through the space with a certain ease that only comes from being surrounded by fashion lovers. If you’re ever down the East End, I highly recommend checking it out.

The energy in the room was quietly electric - Adelaide’s fashion community gathered not just as fans, but as friends. I went with my friend Tema, who owns over 20 Katya pieces (yes, twenty). If that doesn’t speak to the cult status of Katya’s work, nothing will.

And if you’re looking to add a piece of South Australian fashion history to your wardrobe, Katya’s newest collection will be released tonight at 8 pm. Head to her website to view the new collection when it drops!

Here’s to a decade of Katya Komarova - timeless, thoughtful, and stitched not with thread, but with community.
